Artavazd Pelechian, Us (Menk or My), 1992

Artavazd Pelechian studied directing at the Cinematographic Institute in Moscow (VGIK) between 1963 and 1968. In 1988 he published his theoretical texts on cinema under the title Moe Kino (My Cinema, Erevan). Pelechian’s films were very little seen in the West until the end of the 1980s. In 1992 one of the first retrospectives was held at the Galerie Nationale du Jeu de Paume, Paris, and the French television channel Antenne 2 devoted an evening to his films. The Fondation Cartier pour l’Art Contemporain, Paris, presented an exhibition of his work ’Un Art Populaire’, the same year.
