This collective of young Genevan artists works largely with computer-generated images, offering a critical analysis of our environment and the behavior it generates.

collectif_fact, circus, 2003

For the collective’s “circus” (2003) project, the artists have photographed fragments of the landscapes during walks around Geneva’s place du Cirque. They have digitally isolated all of the area’s distinct features (architecture, signage, traffic, vegetation, etc.) and have introduced them into a 3D model of the square. The landscape they have created is the result of a piling-up of individual layers; navigation between all these elements presents us with a fragmentary view of the city. We are forced to abandon the illusion of taking everything in.
“circus” (2003) questions in particular our perception of urban space. Unlike the traditional city, it is no longer made up of a continuous, uniform space and only tends to become a pure arrangement of elements. The transportation networks transform the landscape into sequences while broadcasting systems display a fragmentary view of the city. The group collectif_fact proposes describing this environment layer by layer so that the constructed landscape that results from it proves more in keeping with this sensory reality.
