Tanua Ruiz, La Plaza I., 2002

The structure of her project “La Plaza II” is modeled on the cyclical structure of time and space. Through this work the artist wanted to develop the theme of the will, that blind power of life that makes a plaything of humans. The artist’s latest works are space-time structures that examine the limits of the frame and offer images in perpetual movement. The piece presents a series of pedestrians who were filmed in isolation. Here they are seen eternally walking on without ever reaching the limit of their world since the computer topography in which they move is based on the torus figure.
Nothing happens and yet a dramatic tension emerges from our expectation of some event.
The film also deals with those repeated, even daily encounters in city life that are never of any consequence.

Born in 1973 in Santaigo de Chile, Chile. Lives and works in Paris, France.
